Keeping the New Year Resolutions Through Smaller Goals

Happy New Year! 2020 is here!
New Year New Goals, right?

We all make New Year Resolutions but often we fail to keep them. Why is that?
It could be because the goals are not clear and lack planning.

Here's how to have a better chance of achieving your New Year Resolution:

1. Have Realistic Goals:

It's good to dream big but if we set goals that are impossible to achieve in one year, then we will only get stressed and feel like we can't achieve anything, so it's better to set realistic goals. Example: Instead of reading 100 books a year, decide on 10 most interesting ones first and try to finish them.

2. Break goals into smaller tasks:

Like the last point, create steps and smaller tasks that lead to the big goal that you want to achieve. Like with the example of the book, make a goal to read at least 2 pages of a book daily and then go on increasing the number of pages as your capacity increases.

3. Write it down & place it where you see them:

When we write our goals, we remember them and we achieve them. If you don't write the goals, you will forget it because we are often busy in our life which leaves some goals forgotten. Put the list of goals where you can see them every day. if you don't want others to see your goals, then some place where you see it daily but only you can see it, like your locker, wallet, purse, Google Drive, or in the sticky notes of mobile phone.

4. Stay Positive:

Your pace and efforts may change, you may miss the daily goal sometimes, but stay positive and think about the outcome of the goal. Your hard work will always pay off. Like the example of books, the knowledge and wisdom that you will get by reading is priceless.

5. Never give up:

It's hard at first but once you get used to it, it becomes easy. Remember that a sweater is made by starting to stitch and not giving up, a jug is filled by water by continuous flow of water into it until it is full. Your small efforts will make a huge difference in your life and in some cases, in the world. If you didn't achieve your goals last year, it's fine because whenever we fail, we learn something and that knowledge makes us a better person. Never give up and the bright future shall be yours!

I hope 2020 is full of success and joy for you!!
Thank you for reading this far.
