Spoiler-Free Review:-
Filmmaker, writer, poet, and podcaster from Vermont USA, Paul Dulski's Light in the Darkness is full of poems with a few important prose passages. The book is like life. Taking you deep into hopelessness then towards hope and sharing real life stories of why life is worth living despite all the setbacks we encounter.
It starts off with poems that will make you feel relatable to what Paul is saying. The poems have a variety of topics, and emotions covered in them. Including friendships, love, betrayal, human nature, psychology, and society in general. Paul walks us through some of his personal experience too, but with skillful indirect way through poetry. It seems like the book has 3 parts, first which describes a person's descent into hopelessness, and darkness due to the rough life.
The middle part seems like what actually makes a difference in a person's life when that person is having a tough time. What actually changed the poet (Paul) and his near death experience due to an accident. The prose passages share stories that are truly moving. There's one about the loss of a child that's not even born. Then there's another about the demise of Paul's father (Stanley Dulski, RIP) through the words of his sister. This section is what shows us the importance of relations and life because we never know what will happen next.

The third part is full of motivational poems which tell us why there's always a hope of a better tomorrow, meeting good people, and finding true love. It tells how Paul has helped many people to get out of Darkness of mind, and also how meeting his true love, Tessa Baker - a poetess, and actress herself, changed his life for better, and also how he met Tessa through a situation formed by destiny. It's a refreshing turn of events when the book starts the romantic section of poems that are sweet and beautiful.
[Mark Albert RIP]
There's a story about "A Fallen August Lion" - Mark Albert who was a great person, a co-worker of Paul who purchased his first book. Mark Albert (RIP) was full of ideas which were going to be books but his life was abruptly ended. Some real life events are also reflected in the near end part of the book with reference to the US elections, politicians, and the broken American Dream.
The book has bonus educational parts where Paul tells the readers how he started writing poetry in his school, a Bee poem he wrote during his school days, and then in the end he tells us why his poem titles are trying to tell you the story of his life through smart references like how singers of Pop genre usually do with their songs.
The book has some strong language but nothing explicit. It is the honesty of the poet, and strong emotions which get through such language because even some self help gurus on the internet swear all the time because it's honest, and you know, a guy who's swearing is often pretty honest and not hiding anything. The poems even when they're not rhyming, have a musical or rhythmic tone similar to Rock / Metal and even some Pop bands/singers. Also, the book has a philosophical value due to its exploration of many aspects of life, society, economy and human relations. Thus, teens and above seem like the best audience for this.
In conclusion, Paul Dulski has created a book full of poems which are emotionally moving, entertaining, and teaching us a lot about life. Not just why life is challenging, but also why it's worth living. For anyone interested in a thought provoking read full of important messages, lessons, and motivation at the end, this is a must read, especially if you're trying to find a light through the darkness of your life... This book shall give you hope because this is based on real life examples, and experience.
Sample poem -
Paul Dulski's advice for the best reading experience- "Look at my piece called "Behind the Other Door", that has three parts. However instead of reading it in order, Part 1-3. Begin with Part 2, after that Part 1 and Part 3 act as YOUR choice. Do you let the darkness consume you? Or do you open up the door to feel the sunshine on your body?"
Behind the Back Door part 2, 1 and 3.
II. Let Me In, I’ll Save You
I see you in the darkness alone Holding your legs with your arms
Rocking back and forth feeling doubtful
I’m inside your head now
Hear me now, I know this is doubting
But listen, there’s so much more behind the other door
“No, I won’t do it.”
You haven’t been happy in a long time though
“That’s because I shut myself away.”
I’ll tell you what, I promise I’ll be with you I’ll guide your hand through the world
All you have to do is believe in me
Give me permission to be your eyes
I’ll walk you up to the door
And the rest will be up to you, open it or leave it shut
But like I said and I’ll keep saying There is so much more behind the other door
I. Darkness My Old Friend
“I won’t give you permission.
I just wanna sit in my darkness forever.”
And that’s what you did, for the rest of your life
You never heard from my voice again
You never mentioned me, nor did I mention you I wanted you, to chant my name in softness
Darkness my old friend, devour me whole
I longed for your return, and now it’s back
Oh how happy I am since you’ve returned
The darkness grew more, surrounding you
Everything and everyone, turned away from you
But that didn’t bother you, you loved the quietness
Soon you’ll be forgotten, did you like how it ended
Did you live the life you chose to keep
Or did something become missing throughout the play
Becoming insane from within, how much longer till you break
We know it won’t be long, till your last breath And then that’s when the darkness consumes you
III. Seeing Daylight Again
*Door creaks open* Stepping out into the sunlight
Placing cover with a hand over your eyes
You smell the fresh air and hear the birds chirping
This is the start of something more
Running through the field with wildflowers
You’re finally free to roam on your own
Awaiting the day to feel normal again
But patience is the key in this game of life
Feel the air, smell the flowers I told you to believe in me
And now you’re living the life you pleaded
But it’s now your turn to help yourself move on
“I shall return to where I hide, if you ever
need me, chant my name softly.
I shall appear.”
That’s when I vanished in thin air
I can’t help guide you through it all
But I can help you when you truly need me
I’ll be waiting for the days to come
And I’ll be beside you, throughout all the brawls
Feel the air, smell the flowers
And now your breathing the life you wanted
But it’s now your turn to help yourself move on
For it’s time to reconnect yourself from within.

About Paul Dulski-
Biography
I was born on the 13th of October (which was a Tuesday), live in the state of Vermont. I had the idea of publishing a book for numerous of years now. Only problem at the time was, how would I publish them and who would read it? After seeing friends publish work on various places I decided to ask around. School was the first time I tried poetry, it was 6th grade when my first ever piece called "The Bee" was in a book, year later another one of mine got published from the same class, which that was called "Come With Me" which is featured in my first book.
"For the Broken Hearted" was the idea I had gotten before publishing it on December 22, 2015. I wanted to try helping people once I got through a six month depression in 2005, I was saved by a band called Bleeding Through. My book "For the Broken Hearted" is all my original works from 2001-2008, 2009 was a year I didn't write then I wrote from 2010-2015. It's full of poems anyone can relate to if not all of it. From betrayal, unloved, losing someone close to you, politics and more. I created this book for those that need a voice to help defeat their demons.
Few weeks later around the beginning of the new year of 2016, "Haunted Nightmares" was released on the 6th of January. Originally this was supposed to be the last book, which included all my lyrics from when I was in two bands before I started a solo project.
When I first finished my second book I wasn't actually planning on doing another book, which was titled "Enemy Of Everything". After finding just enough to have a "minimum" page for a book I decided to write one more. This books theme came from the lyrics I had found, which lead to what I feel is my meaning behind the cover. It symbolizes all the pain, suffering, betrayal and etc that I've battled and won. It shows I bled when I possibly should have passed on. I focused my attention on new lyrics for the book while writing "My Authors Pages" in the book. I wanted this to be pissed off just like I had felt writing my old lyrics and new. This book is truly where my anger comes from, once you've set it off. Like the back of the book says, "YOU. HAVE. BEEN. WARNED.". Meaning once you read this one, you'll either talk with me still or stop chatting with me.
"Till the Death of Me Collection" was the first time I brought in a Hardcover Edition of one of my books. Finding a site suitable enough to fit my need of material I published this collection, featuring all three books in one plus a bonus chapter that also showed off new lyrics from myself while featuring work from friends. This is the ultimate collection.
"The Light In the Darkness" which message I believe is quite clear, I'm creating this book to help others understand through a dark path that I and possibly you have or will journey through which leads you to what I believe is my soul mate and forever. It also comes with a bonus chapter. This book takes on subjects from bullying, suicide, feeling lost, finding yourself, giving up, not giving up and more.
As 2018 starts, I will let you know to whomever reads this. If you have enjoyed anything you have read, please note I am returning again for 2019. New book is entitled "Destroy. Rebuild."
